From Staff Reports
A 17-year old high school student and reported gang member from Mesquite has been arrested and indicted for felony stalking after authoring, recording and distributing a rap song at his school containing explicit lyrics that threatened another student. Dallas County Sheriff's Department officials said they believe the indictment for stalking through rap lyrics is a first in the county.
Sheriff's detectives arrested Brock Anthony Coleman, a student at Mesquite's John Horn High School, after he recorded a song containing lyrics laced with profanity and threats of both bodily harm and death directed at another student. Coleman repeatedly called the student by phone, followed him and later went to his home with other gang members in an effort to intimidate and harass him and his family, sheriff's officials said.
Coleman also made copies of the CD and passed them or sold them to friends.
Since his arrest, Coleman has been moved to an alternative school.
A grand jury indicted Coleman Monday on the stalking charge. He is out of jail on $5,000 bond. If convicted, he could receive a prison sentence up to 10 years and a fine of up to $10,000.
